7 fall/winter beauty trends to know in 2022

In addition to offering the latest trends that will become essential, the catwalk collections each season give us a bounty of beauty inspiration.

Usually a mix of minimal and avant-garde style, and the AW22’s runways were no exception – with retro-inspired hair, shimmering trim and a classic look that gives a new lease of life.

As we head into fall/winter and prepare to update our wardrobes, these are the behind-the-scenes beauty trends that are dominating the season…

1. Red Lips Rejuvenation

In recent years, makeup artists have moved away from the trend of one-size-fits-all to a more tailored approach, and this season it’s up to you how to shine.

Designers like Molly Goddard, Tory Burch, and Feben designed the case for the matte, glossy texture.

On Miu Miu and Sportmax, the crimson sheen was the order of the day, while models at Vivienne Westwood were somewhere between the satin spurs.

2. Hair bands

There’s only one way to spice up your look this season, and that’s with a headband.

From David Koma’s ’90s slick comb headbands and Roksanda’s sporty subtle patterns, to Alice’s thick, brightly colored headbands in Eudon Choi and Zimmerman’s beaded tiaras, these accessories will elevate any look.

3. Punk Party

The glamorous exit was a major inspiration behind the scenes, as sexy, smoky, and dramatic black eye looks are in vogue from New York to Paris.

There were XXL cat flicks in Jason Wu and Roberto Cavalli, and lashes of smudged eyeliner in Pura Aksu and Saint Laurent, emphasizing the sinister aesthetic rather than subtlety.

4. Nineties hair

While fashion doesn’t get enough of Noughties, hairstylists are still obsessed with the ’90s—the decade of minimalism.

We’ve seen ’90s inspiration in Nensi Dojaka’s back locks, Giambattista Valli’s wet bobs and Preen’s spiky chignons.

5. Distinguishing eyes

The splashes of color came by way of acid eyeshadows—yellow-and-lime highlighters in Mark Fast, fuchsia wings in Valentino and bright mauve in Saint Laurent.

How can you make this look work for the winter? Creamy colors coordinate with a clean matte base and nude lip – so eyes really stand out.

6. Bleached eyebrows

Lily Moss (daughter of legendary nurse Kate) wrapped up the Richard Quinn show with an all-white wedding look, and heightened her angelic look with bleached eyebrows.

One of the season’s boldest trends—also seen in Preen, Versace, and Burberry—blonde peroxide brows aren’t for everyone, but they definitely help accentuate the smoky eye look.

7. Face jewelry

A splash of sparkle isn’t uncommon at fall/winter fashion shows (“this season, after all) but this time we’ve seen metallic makeup take it to the next level with full-face jewelry.

Pairs of gemstones were set on the cheeks at the forehead in Givenchy, crystal-encrusted eyes in Simone Rocha and bejeweled designs in Burberry even included the brand’s logo.

For a look from the runway to real life, try a few sticky jewelry for your party season look.
