Just when things were starting to look too good for Spurs fans, it was reported that Antonio Conte wants to return to Juventus.
Conte led Tottenham to fourth place last season after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo in November, four months after the Portuguese was appointed as head coach.
It’s been a rocky road to fourth, with Conte often complaining that his team wasn’t good enough.
Italian coach Dejan Kulusevsky and Rodrigo Bentancur brought in in the winter transfer window.
Both players made an immediate impact in North London, especially the former.
Tottenham started the 2022/23 campaign very well, on top of the results anyway.
Without looking like a great teamConte’s team is third in the Premier League with five wins, two draws and zero defeats after seven matches.
Despite the club’s improved results under the former Chelsea boss, there was always a lack of security about his position as head coach.
The 53-year-old is a bit of an odd figure and there is a feeling he could walk out of Spurs any day.
Conte was initially reluctant to take the job at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2022 before Nuno was named as Daniel Levy’s eighth choice.
And with Juventus coach Max Allegri under increasing pressure, it was reported that Conte is looking forward to a return to his former club.
The old lady finished eighth in Serie A with two wins from her opening seven matches.
They suffered their first league defeat over the weekend, losing to Monza, who took their first Serie A win in the process.
Talking to TuttoJuve PodcastItalian journalist Fabiana Della Valle said Conte would like to leave Tottenham to return to Allianz Stadium.
“On Monday, (Andrea) Agnelli renewed his confidence in Allegri, nothing has changed so far,” Della Valley said.
“I think it will continue like this until November, when there is a break for the World Cup. After that it will be possible to make an initial assessment because you will have to judge whether or not to stay in the Champions League.
“The tournament, on the other hand, is long and in any case, there will be time to get the points back.”
Della Valle continued: “The meeting of the directors is not related to the coach, and I do not expect anything regarding this aspect, but Conte wants to return to Juventus.
“The relationship with Agnelli has improved, but I don’t know at what point (John) Elkann wants him back.”
Tottenham hope Conte will renew his contractHis current deal expires in less than 12 months.
While a return to Juventus has been reported, the Italian has not left the Serie A giants on the best terms.
This was due to his poor relationship with Juventus president Andrea Agnelli, although some reports in Italy claim they have put their differences behind and are now on good terms.
Another report coming from Tancredi Palmeri via sports today It is alleged that Juventus had already made contact with Conte while they were considering firing Allegri.
This report should be taken with a pinch of salt.
