Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and OnePlus 10 Pro: Design

Both phones look quite elegant, but at the same time completely different. Both devices have ultra-thin bezels and glass back panels, but that’s where the similarities end. The OnePlus 10 Pro has a lot more curves than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It features a curved screen, while its front and back sides are curved to be proportional. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, has completely flat front and back sides, while also being flat on all its sides.

iPhone 14 Pro Max has uniform bezels and a bead-shaped notch on the screen. The OnePlus 10 Pro has very thin bezels, but they are not completely uniform. There is a hole for the display camera in the upper left corner of the screen of this phone. Even the rear camera settings look completely different. Apple’s flagship has a camera island, with a distinct look, and three cameras there, as well as a ToF 3D sensor. The OnePlus 10 Pro also has three cameras on the back, but its camera island sticks out of the frame, well, at least it looks the same.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a stainless steel frame, while the OnePlus 10 Pro uses aluminum. Both phones are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, and both have sliders to mute the sound. The difference is that the iPhone is a two-level slider, while the OnePlus 10 Pro also has a vibration level in there, so it’s a three-level slider. The OnePlus 10 Pro is a bit taller and a lot narrower, while it’s a bit thicker. It’s much lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, though at 201 grams compared to Apple’s 240 grams. Both phones feel distinct, but are also very different in the hand. The Apple flagship will cut a little more in your hand, while the OnePlus 10 Pro feels more slippery, although it’s more comfortable to hold. Don’t get me wrong, though, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is very slippery.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and OnePlus 10 Pro: Presentation

iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch 2796 x 1290 LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. This is a flat screen that offers a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision content and becomes very bright. Its brightness reaches 2000 nits, which makes it the brightest screen of a smartphone. This panel has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and comes with a scratch-resistant ceramic glass on top.

The OnePlus 10 Pro has a 6.7-inch LTPO2 Fluid AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution (3216 x 1440), which is curved. This panel also has a refresh rate of 120Hz, and it supports HDR10+ content. By the way, it can display up to a billion colors. This panel gets up to 1,300 nits of brightness from peak brightness, and it’s protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. We’re looking at the 20:9 aspect ratio on the OnePlus 10 Pro.

You really can’t miss it when it comes to these two screens. Both are really excellent. Both are very vivid, very bright, have excellent viewing angles, and are also smooth. They also have a great tactile response, and quite frankly they feel good when in use. Blacks are also very deep on both. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has the advantage of a brighter panel, though, if it’s used in direct sunlight frequently. There is also a preference between flat and curved screens, it’s up to you.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and OnePlus 10 Pro: Performance

In terms of performance-related hardware, these two phones are really well-equipped. iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with Apple A16 Bionic SoC, 6GB of RAM and NVMe storage. The OnePlus 10 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, while it has up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 flash storage. All of this leads to great performance on both phones.

The SoC inside the iPhone 14 Pro Max is more powerful, while the RAM and storage aspects are technically on the OnePlus 10 Pro side. The optimization has a lot to do with it, of course, as well as iOS 16 and Android 12 (with OxygenOS) that come pre-installed on these two phones, respectively. Both settings work very well, and this applies to both everyday tasks and games. They can handle just about anything you throw at them. We didn’t notice any noticeable lag or anything like that. Both phones perform great, and they heat up during intense gaming sessions. This is to be expected, however.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and OnePlus 10 Pro: Battery

The iPhone 14 Pro has a 4,323 mAh battery, while the OnePlus 10 Pro comes with a 5,000 mAh battery. Don’t worry too much about the difference in size here, because the two operating systems consume battery differently. Having said that, both phones offer excellent battery life. No, we are not exaggerating here. We were able to get more than 8 hours of screen on time from the OnePlus 10 Pro, without playing into the mix.

Regarding the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the situation appears to be quite similar. All in all, even if you’re a heavy user, each of these phones should be able to give you a full day’s worth of battery life. Even if you play a little, you should be fine. Now, what if you run out of juice early? Well, the OnePlus 10 Pro has you covered better than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, that’s for sure.

why is that? Well, OnePlus 10 Pro offers 80W wired charging and 50W reverse wireless charging. iPhone 14 Pro Max has a maximum charge of 23W, with wired charging. It supports 15W MagSafe wireless and 7.5W Qi wireless charging as well. Needless to say, it charges much slower than the OnePlus 10 Pro. Furthermore, the iPhone 14 Pro Max does not come with a charger, while the OnePlus 10 Pro does.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and OnePlus 10 Pro: Cameras

Both phones have quite convincing camera settings, and they do well in this regard. iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 48MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide unit, and a 12MP telephoto camera. Furthermore, there is a ToF 3D LiDAR sensor on the back. OnePlus 10 Pro has a 48MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. Moreover, it has Hasselblad support and color tuning.

OnePlus 10 Pro AM AH 11

The OnePlus 10 Pro had some issues with overexposure initially, but OnePlus fixed that via updates. That’s the direction of the company, and the cameras on its flagships are good, but after a couple of updates, they’re really great. The same is the case with the OnePlus 10 Pro. Its colors are usually very good and realistic, and red looks especially cool. It does a great job with portrait mode, and has a very wide ultra-wide camera. Switching between the two cameras is still a bit choppy.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max does a great job overall. It does tend to blow out the highlights from time to time, though, and overdo it a little bit. This is something Apple will likely adjust via an update. It has an excellent RAW mode, and does a great job with slow motion. The Ultra HD camera keeps the same colors as the main camera, and switching is seamless. The iPhone 14 Pro Max also handles video better, possibly the best video camera out there.

My voice

If you were hoping to get an audio jack on at least one of these phones, this isn’t the case. Nobody includes it. You will have to rely on Bluetooth 5.3 / Lightning (iPhone) port and Bluetooth 5.2 / Type-C USB (OnePlus). Both phones can provide quite convincing sound through both wired and wireless connections.

What they have are stereo speakers, and either way, they’re pretty good. It’s not the best we’ve heard before, but it certainly feels like a flagship smartphone. They are well balanced, very loud, and also very sharp.
