Replacing the venerable CSL Elite pedals, the V2s are a three-pedal console for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It includes a new load cell system as well as a reinforced chassis.
While Fanatec’s list of steering wheels and wheelbases appears to have expanded at a rapid rate lately, with exciting real-world add-ons, its pedal line hasn’t seen much of an update. Even today.
The Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2 is a new addition to the lineup, replacing the venerable — now nearly six years old — group.
The main component of the kit is undoubtedly the brake pedal. The way they perform, feel, and provide feedback is essential to reducing lap times. For V2, this has been updated.
Three pedals, one package
With previous CSL Elites, I received two pedals out of the box, then an optional extra upgradable load-cell assembly that also included a custom brake pedal. Now, this is all one unit, three pedals and a load cell out of the box.
The pressure-based system itself is rated at 90kg of force on the plate, the same number as the previous load-cell assembly, but its design and operation are completely new.
Response can be adjusted, as three elastomers are included – with shore hardnesses of 65, 75 and 85 – and their adjustment does not require the use of tools. A second, stronger metal spring is also included, if you prefer.
One item that requires an inline tool is adjusting the three pedals from left to right along the base. We hope this adjustability will help you find your preferred setting.
The pedal levers, faces and heel rest are machined from cast and machined aluminum, all in the same powder-coated surface, for a visual appearance similar to the current model. Fanatec’s signature stylish rubber pedal faces can be removed for varying levels of friction.
However, an additional bracket has been added to the back of the device, which Fanatec claims adds extra stability under heavy load.
This time around, the throttle and clutch pedals use Hall-effect magnetic sensors, unlike potentiometers, which are similar to entry-level CSL pedals. In theory, this contactless system reduces sensor wear in the long run.
Fanatec CSL Elite Pedal V2 Price and Compatibility
The Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2 pedals cost €299.95, $299.95 and AU$499.95. For comparison’s sake, the combination CSL Elite Pedals V1 plus the optional Load Cell Kit was €229.90 at launch in 2016.
As always, this new pedal set is compatible with PC, PlayStation and Xbox. On a PC, it works with all compatible Fanatec wheelbases or as a standalone input device via USB. For consoles, they connect to the Fanatec wheelbase, provided the wheelbase and/or steering wheel is compatible with PlayStation or Xbox.
