A new chapter awaits a one-time star Samcro Gordon Elliott also revealed that the double Cheltenham Fest winner will be featured in points this season.

The owners of Gigginstown House Stud have chosen to pursue a new path with the famous ten-year-old, and they have entrusted Elliot’s traveling chairwoman Camilla Sharples to reignite the veteran’s fire among the flags.

With a rating of 163 hurdles and 160 over fences at his peak, Samcro now holds a chase mark of 142 and was last seen pulling in third class An Riocht Chase at Killarney in May – a race he won 12 months earlier.

Ballymore Novices ‘Hurdle and Marsh Novices’ champ traveled well on much of the ride in this year’s Grand National before slumping to finish 11th.

Elliott said, “Samcro goes from point to point. He’s been a favorite around the yard and Michael [O’Leary] He gave it to Camila, but if he did end up running back at the racetrack, it would be in the colors of Gigginstown.

“It’s been around for a long time, so we just said we’d do something different.”

A vital member of the Elliott cast, Sharples has enjoyed success with similar point-to-point projects in recent seasons.

Having looked after superb player Kruzelinen during a previous role with Donald McCain, Sharples was named the third-tier winner by owners Paul and Claire Rooney and went on to earn 13 points through the 2018-2019 season, including three at Tinahely, although he did not. Nothing is announced about where Samcro might run.
