iOS 16 wallpaper update not working depth effect or turning gray

New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….

The original story (published on September 14, 2022) is as follows:

The just-released iOS 16 from Apple implements a series of new and exciting features on your iPhone’s lock screen. It also lets you customize the look of your lock screen with cool new wallpapers.

Users can further personalize it with Depth Effect which adds the illusion of depth to Lock Screen wallpapers.

When the said effect is applied to the wallpaper, the lock screen elements such as the clock make room for setting the theme. However, it appears that the Depth Effect option is currently not available to many users.

Why does the Depth Effect option turn gray while I’m trying to set the wallpaper? It’s the same with all the selfies on my device.

Hey, what better way to take a photo with depth effect than regular photos? Or is this only possible with the image function?

According to one of ReportsDepth Effect works fine for selfies but stops working with the new iOS 16 wallpapers.

A possible explanation for this may be the requirement that there is a clear and distinct subject in the image for the effect to function properly.

There are also those who believe that the effect of depth disappears after adding a widget on the lock screen.

I’m using one of the astronomy wallpapers that has a depth effect with time and earth. However, when you place a widget on the lock screen, this effect disappears. Is there any way to fix this?

Possible solution

Since the depth effect is disabled when adding widgets, users can simply try to remove them from the lock screen.

We’ll be keeping tabs on further developments around this issue and update the article when something noteworthy appears.

Update 2 (September 16, 2022)

Update 3 (September 19, 2022)

04:37 PM (actual): Here’s a workaround suggested by Redditor that works for some users. Hence, you can also give it a try and see if it works.

Solution: This is the link to the image. Another way if using the Reddit app on your phone is to tap share on the post, go to copy link, open browser, paste link, go to source image, long press, and save images. I tested it with Safari and it worked through. (source)
