iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are the first models with an easily removable back glass since the iPhone 4S. Many hobbyist colored and transparent backlit glass panels will likely appear over time, just like in the days of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Back in 2011, someone modified the iPhone 4 to Features a glowing Apple logo on the back.

One potential hurdle to aftermarket modifications is that Apple requires technicians to complete a System Configuration after replacing the back glass on iPhone 14 models, according to internal documents obtained by Mac rumors. It’s not yet clear what happens if this software calibration process is avoided – possibilities can range from a simple warning about a non-genuine iOS part to functions like wireless charging being affected.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max do not have a removable back glass panel.
