The aluminum rim receives a 45 percent increase in grit wall thickness in an effort to reduce disc flats.

The wheel is designed to be supercharged and able to withstand frequent spins in the bike park too Enduro Racing duties.

To improve the driving feel in these places, the rim has a shallower profile, intended to enhance radial compliance. This is designed to improve traction and help riders grip the lines through rough sections of trail.

The new shallow rim profile aims to increase compliance and improve handling.

These new four-piston brakes see Hayes take the formula to impress Dominion A4 Brake and shave a set of weights, all the while trying to maintain the same performance.

They still use the same 17mm four-piston, but the caliper has gone through an additional manufacturing process to remove any excess material. The brake pads use an aluminum back plate. Screws and titanium banjo fittings help save grams as well.

The calipers still feature Crosshair alignment screws that help you set up the caliper to prevent chafing, which is a neat feature. It also carries a “Two-Stroke” liquefaction port, which enables you to liquefy each brake piston individually.

Small grub screws help align the caliper and prevent it from shifting for a rubbing-free setup.

The winch sees a new carbon lever blade from Hayes sister company Reynolds and a composite tank cap. However, reach and bite adjustments are no longer tool-free. The lever device is made of titanium, but it keeps the sealed cartridge bearings for the blade to rotate around its axis.

The carbon fiber crank blade is manufactured by Hayes’ sister company Reynolds, and helps reduce weight.

All of these details mean the brakes saw a 22 percent drop in weight, or 55 grams (front brake, no stabilization hardware) over the Hayes A4. Weighing just 250 grams, it’s too light for a four-piston brake. To put that into perspective, it is 15 grams lighter than the Shimano XTR M8120 front brake.

The shell is molded in EPS foam for a more durable bond between the two. There are 11 air inlets and six outlets for a healthy dose of ventilation. Furthermore, the helmet uses ABUS communication channels around the ear to help improve spatial awareness and balance – which is essential for mountain bike riding.

AirDrop features foam padding to help protect your collarbones in the event of an accident.

Other safety features include EVA foam wishbone protection inserts to reduce impact force if the helmet comes into contact with the collarbone in the event of a collision. In addition, there is a D-loop buckle and an adjustable cradle attached to the MIPS lining to help adapt the fit.

The adjustable mount attaches to the MIPS liner, and helps adapt the fit across both helmet sizes.

One of these modes is the “click” mode. This enables you to tap on the body of the light to change the lumen output to one of three brightness levels, saving you from having to search for the function button on the light.

The body is made of 6063 anodized aluminum and weighs 148 grams. It’s formed with cooling strips to help dissipate heat. If the LEDs become too hot, the power is automatically reduced to provide the optimum operating temperature. When it cools down, the full power will be usable again.

The lightweight body is shaped to help keep you cool. If the LEDs get too hot, the software will limit the power supplied until they cool down to maintain maximum efficiency.

An LED indicator at the back of the light indicates battery levels. It’s not cheap, but the Zenith Mk2 has some great features and power output.
