Jodi told The Sun: “It looks like Meghan and Harry have walked out of class to hold each other’s hands at the end of service.

“It looks like an emotionally exuberant gesture, driven by the need to touch and unite again.

“But it’s hard not to take into account how Harry was not allowed to appear in uniform like the others – except for Andrew – so I may have felt less constrained in terms of maintaining royal protocol.”

Describing the moment the royal family stepped in after the service, Jodie said everyone “except Harry and Meghan” walked in with a “big gap between them”.

She said the couple, who have lived apart from the royal family for the past two years, immediately seemed “comfortable” when they got back together.

She explained: “As they walked in line behind William and Kate, they locked their doors and reached out to perform their signature hand clasp, and the clasp hung between them.

“The way they did it as close as possible, referring to the time they spend apart and then the moments where they stand formally together but with a gap between them was difficult and even painful.

“They both seemed to relax a bit once they came back with the emotional tie sign again.”
