Featured Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes It was Plan B for Nostrum after Doncaster was canceled two weeks ago, but you wouldn’t know it judging by the way he made his classic claims under Ryan Moore.

After winning his first at Sandown in the summer, apprentice Sir Michael Stoute was originally booked for a runway race at Town Moor, but he seemed very much at home in the Group company when he put Royal Ascot winner Holloway Boy in the shadows.

Having sat near the pace for most of the flight 200-1 Abravaggio, Nostream, hit a home run as he entered the slope and a 7-4 chance was enough to fend off a Chesham winner in second and a 5-4 victory dance favorite in third.

The winner was cut to 4-1 (from 20-1) by Paddy Power to race the Dewhurst Stakes again at the Rowley Mile on October 8 and was cut back to 8-1 (from 14-1) the next year’s Qipco 2000 Guinea by the same company.

“That was so much fun I thought it looked like a very warm race this morning,” Stout said. “He did really well the first time and was entitled to run in a race like this, and we are pleased with the performance. We expected a really big run for the first time, but he was racing For the first time. So good so far.”

“I don’t know if he will run again this year because we will have to bring him home, but I would like to run him again,” he added.

Coach Carl Burke said of Holloway Boy: “We’re so glad he lost eight to ten days with a dirty speculum when he missed the Champagne Stakes. Danny Todhope said he’d be fit for a mile so we could take a look at the Vertem Trophy or the Breeders’ Cup.”

Age in the race

There was a lot of interest in the winner’s box after Ashky’s Lifetime In Racing Awards ran in honor of local stars Cliff Lines and the late Les Simpson.

Lines is best known for riding the legendary Shergar on all his homework, and has also found time to be a jockey and coach from his home in nearby Exning.

Simpson, who died earlier this year, was a Jeremy Noseda yard champion and his ashes were scattered on the Rolly Mile.

Lines, 87, said: “It’s so great at Racing Welfare to admit my life racing like this. I must have spent nearly 70 years in the sport and was still riding at the age of 83. Shergar was the best I’ve ever ridden and we had He has 33-1 about him in the derby when he was two years old because we knew we had something special.”

Simpson’s daughter Christina Milligan was also in attendance, saying of her father, “My dad passed away recently and I think this would be a fitting tribute to over 60 years in the industry.”

Michael Dodds wastes no diesel when he comes to Newmarket, and he has raised his strike rate on the Rowley Mile to more than 30 percent in the past five years when Azure Blue came last to first in handicap 6f foals.

The candidate fell 2-1 to finish ahead of the others and also got back in front of her rivals when she headed to longtime leader Loves Me Likearock near her home.

Darlington-based Dodds was complementing his competition success a year ago with the latest listed winner, Jill Force Maya.

“Sky Blue is a beautiful filly and you may have seven gallons when you get stronger next year,” said winning jockey Paul Mulrinan.
