APPLE completely revamped the iPhone lock screen last week, giving fans more customization options than ever before.
You can now modify what your screen displays with custom fonts, colors, and images that all blend seamlessly together.
However, perhaps the most exciting change is the addition of lock screen widgets.
This can display information such as weather, match scores, latest news, and more.
Widgets have been around for a while on your home screens — the pages where you keep your favorite apps.
With the introduction of iOS 16, you can now add them to your lock screen as well.
This is the screen that appears when you wake your iPhone but before you unlock it.
How to add widgets to iPhone lock screen
- Touch and hold Lock Screen until the Personalize button appears, then tap Personalize.
- Tap the box above or below the time to see the widgets you can add to your lock screen.
- Click or drag the tools you want to add.
- Click Done.
Best lock screen tools to try today
Some of the best lock screen widgets are those designed to go along with Apple’s suite of iOS apps.
They include Weather, which (surprise surprise) displays the local weather forecast right on your lock screen.
It’s also worth trying Calendar, News, and Apple Music.
For something more straightforward, you can switch between a set of photos throughout the day using the Photo Shuffle option.
Browse our suggested photo library to find photos curated from your Photos app.
Other than Apple, there are tons of third-party apps that are also worth your time.
If you use Google services, for example, Google’s suite of apps has its own tools to try, including Calendar and Gmail.
What is iOS 16?
This is the primary operating system that powers the device, offering Apple appsfeatures and designs for your iPhone.
This year’s new version is called iOS 16 and it’s full of new iPhone Features Users Have Been Waiting For.
This includes a new lock screen with widgets, stylized portrait wallpapers, and notifications that roll from the bottom.
Messages also receives a major update that allows you to edit or recall recently sent messages, as well as restore recently deleted messages or mark conversations as unread.
How to get iOS 16
To try iOS 16 for yourself, you will need to update your iPhone software.
Head to Settings > General > Software Update.
You can then click Upgrade to iOS 16 at the bottom of the screen and then Download and install.
On some iPhones, you will be directed to Download and install automatically.
You’ll be asked to enter your iPhone passcode (if it has one) and then agree to Apple’s terms and conditions.
The download and installation process will take up to an hour, so be sure to send any important messages before you get started.
